How do we motivate students?

Some believe that it is good to treat them like pets, which is a bit far-fetched now. You need to understand what motivates students and what helps in helping the student on their road to success. So today we are going to explore the topic of motivating students in school.

What makes students motivated to study?

Motivation:

Motivation is the process that gives people or organizations a sense of direction and motivation to achieve a common goal. Motivation allows us to think about our actions as taking place in response to certain stimuli that trigger a particular behavior. These situations could be things like being hungry, or maybe feeling nervous, or it can even be the situation where the person gets bored. The basic idea of being motivated is that we will do anything that makes us happier and make our day better so that we can do more stuff the next morning. This is why most of the students would want to go back. They get lazy if they don’t have something new to try or try for an extra few days. Why not spend time doing all of your homework, but some extra hours studying instead? Because the future depends upon your present. If you have no idea how it goes, don’t waste your time on yourself, and just study and get results for the next exams. You’ll regret your decision when you sit down tomorrow.

There are various ways in which motivation works:

1. Positive reinforcements, such as praise, rewards for good performance, and positive feedback—all help improve self-efficacy

2. Prolonged exposure to negative consequences, resulting in poor self-efficacy, and finally a feeling of “I am not competent enough," results in low self-confidence, which is one of the main reasons why students lose interest in anything.

3. Goal setting theory is a psychological concept stating that motivation exists because of a desire to maximize individual interest. In this case, by making friends, or trying out new activities to become popular among your classmates. Having friends and getting praised by those who love you also makes one feel like you are doing something. Your brain starts to recognize you for who you are at your level. That’s the reason why there are only those people capable of having fun with each other. To solve a problem: you only need three people: two friends, one of whom has to act in a certain way.

When you talk to your friend about a problem, you need to remember that he isn’t the same as you are. You need to give him a compliment that will motivate him to do better next time, or keep your grades up a little bit. That kind of love never turns into hate or jealousy toward the other party. Not everyone can put up with each other’s presence. This is why we know that parents should not overwork teachers so much so that kids do not learn properly, nor the amount of work required to pass exams. Also, you need to find a nice friend who will understand you and motivate you.

4. Personal development: this means that keeping up-to-date with what your peers are learning, will help you to think and act appropriately. At the end of the first semester, you may suddenly realize that you need to change your mindset a little bit to become a confident person. Learning

from others to the current problems you have will help build skills that you can use later on to help yourself. In addition to knowing the right way to solve any problem, you will also have to apply it in real life, without overthinking, so they are easier to cope with and that you don’t forget yourself completely. For example, while we were struggling with mathematics, my teacher told me “You just need a little more practice before you can get comfortable with the formulae.”

5. Socialization

Socialization can be defined as the group processes that occur during social interaction. I think that having numerous friends is great for anyone, but it is especially important for schools and college students. Our school, though small, is full of friendly people, who also share our interests and opinions and encourage us to stay positive as well as ambitious. We get great advice from our teachers, friends, and family, which makes life a lot simpler. But sometimes, when you are confused about what’s happening around you and how to behave around different types of people, socialization with others is one of the best tools you can use.

6. School Activities

School activities are a great tool to show what kind of personality you are. During the last week, all of my classes were taught through projects that took place in the community. Each project had at least some part that was directed at a specific topic or activity. And, that was all about preparing material for next week’s class and having a clear plan of everything, Another great thing is that it can take the teacher away from explaining himself to the students since everybody always wants to think how he knows so-and-so, but the teacher does not. One of the most interesting aspects is reading the books by famous authors, so our teacher could guide us through each book (of course) in detail to make sure we understood everything. Of course, teachers are very creative, but you always see how much effort they put into planning each lesson: the whole curriculum, syllabus, syllabus of every teacher, and even the type of clothes our teacher wears.

7. Community

Community is a great advantage because, in big companies and large universities, communities are extremely influential. A company's managers are constantly working together with each other to figure out the most effective solutions for problems to make sure the company increases its productivity. On the contrary, students in smaller colleges and universities all live and study on their campus, so they are more independent and less social, which is why we all need to be close to each other. Even though we may be able to communicate with teachers and our colleagues, we still miss the feeling of being connected to others in order not to forget that we belong together so we can study, like all of them. We all have our friends and our families that we can call up anytime, so we know that there is someone there, who understands our point of view. What we don’t have, however, is the ability to be ourselves without the pressure of belonging to another group. Sometimes, this makes us feel alone and abandoned. Still, even when we're lonely, our environment is nothing compared to the ones of our friends.

8. Time Management

It is essential for your work and your study at home, the way you manage your time. Here, sometimes, our attention is distracted by various tasks or tasks, and sometimes it takes several times to finish our work. Since it is a personal issue, sometimes we get mixed up in priorities, and sometimes the task at hand takes precedence over everything else, this is exactly a situation to face at school. Our school gives us a schedule, which tells us what is expected of us during the upcoming weeks or months. Most of the students know how to organize themselves and, by following them, they usually do everything right.

9. Rewards and Recognition

The reward system is beneficial for us. We get rewarded when we meet our desired goals, like our academic improvement. But sometimes we come across situations where we don’t get the praise we deserve but it is needed for us to be satisfied. A reward can be helpful, but sometimes our focus is diverted, and something unrelated will eventually enter between us, creating the necessity of a reward. This happens at the beginning of the semester: after our midterm exam, our professor told us “You might get a D in this exam, but you won't get your credit back.” It’s bad luck because the professor didn’t get a grade but we have worked hard and we managed to do everything right, so they thought we deserved a raise on our grades, even though of course this isn’t what went down within the class.

10. Independence

When they got used to living alone, we had nothing to worry about. Being on campus was not an issue anymore because many people of the past stayed here and got used to living alone, some of them even became successful entrepreneurs. However, now they are left alone, which leads to loneliness and isolation. Students are often asked to choose between studying at home and studying at the university, but they feel alone because they cannot escape their studies, which makes the choice harder. Moreover, by moving to the city and gaining friends, it becomes harder to gain independence and comfort.

When we were talking to our friends from high school, they told me that they had been living in their parent's house “for years,” yet did not know how to do any work. When we talk about school, they always tell stories about doing everything there. They said that their mom gave them money so they could live there and that “everyone gets a job." As for me, I do everything in the classroom. My teachers are nice since they give me plenty of assignments. Their kids come over, they always get ready for lessons, we spend a lot of time talking, and sometimes we argue, but then we both get on with the work and move on. I think if any of us had moved to the city and lived somewhere else, we could have faced our issues in another way, but not all humans will have this privilege.

We would be happier if we knew these benefits and could start thinking about the future when it comes to choosing what to pursue in our chosen field.
